Previously promoted by Deuce in July 2019, Chloe Collins now returns with her new single Didn’t Want You . Having started singing as a toddler followed by picking up the guitar at the age of 8, Chloe Collins has not looked back since.– Rob Saunders (DEUCE Music)
‘Didn’t Want You’ is pure Country, it is filled with heartbreak, clarity, reflection and a catchy hook. Reminiscent of Carrie Underwoods earlier music and Taylor Swifts debut album (released in 2006). Chloe brings her strong vocals to the front line, elevated by a soothing yet progressive back beat. ‘Didn’t Want You’ makes you want to bring out your own journal and write about wearing your heart on your sleeve.
It is not only well composed, but also carries a certain bite to it as it narrates an unrequited love from the other’s side. For example the song starts off a little slow but then builds up progressively as we see Chloe pour her heart out about love. What is interesting here is that this song serves as a warning to the one she loves, as she begins to describe how the other wants something when she is not really able to provide for them. However Chloe sings in a way that brings about so much clarity but also wisdom too, as she is confident yet knows that her heart is prone to love therefore can become weak (due to human nature).
As Chloe laments on the Chorus “Why you want the girl that didn’t want you, that didn’t want you..”.
She then describes an introspective love that is one sided, whilst describing her own desires for the relationship, as she sings “I needed someone to numb the pain but every-time you look at me I know theres somewhere else you’d rather be…”
Influenced by the likes of Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, Chloe Collins has already had one of her tracks featured on the ABC family TV show ‘The Vineyard’ and on the 100th episode of NASHVILLE on CMT.- Rob Saunders (DEUCE Music)
Rating: A Star on the Rise
Overall, ‘Didn’t Want You’ is a country song rooted in heartbreak, long sleepless nights and longing. It has all the ingredients of a classic country song with a modern tempo and a distinctive new country talent (Collins’ herself). If ‘Didn’t Want You’ is anything to go by then we haven’t even seen the best of Chloe Collins yet, as she just begins to find her footing in the Country Music scene (whilst living out her Childhood passion in the process).
